Category: Young Millionaire
It as one of his travels in Baguio City when he discovered that souvenir industry was virtually unheard. And when he did a backpacking trip in Europe he started collecting T-shirts from all the cities that he has visited. That gave him the idea to also collect shirts on the places he visited in the Philippines. But he found out that the shirts he bought in Baguio were the same one he purchased years ago. That's the time an idea of putting up a souvenir shop is born.
When he graduated he put up a business and named it Islands Souvenirs with only P1,500, which he used to build a cart made of bamboo and nipa in the White Gold Department Store in Cebu City. He sold souvenir items to tourists and locals.
Currently he now have 30 company owned stores all over 70 department store outlets. He was also able to to enter international market. It is a market which is highly dependent on airlines.
Their market are the people who buys souvenirs either for themselves or for gifts. And they now have developed a new retail experience in pasalubong shopping through Pasalubong Center concept - a one stop shop for Islands Souvenir merchandise, local delicacies and novelty items.
"When we came up with the brand, I didn't really realize the impact we were making on the tourism industry."GOLDEN RULE:
"Find creative ways to make presence known. before the walls became fashionable places to visit, I tapped restaurants, airports, and beach hotels to set up my carts. These tourist spots made brand recall easier, and eventually allowed me to put up my first standalone store."
